WORKSHOP--September 10th (Monday) at 2 PM
Title:
salaam on islam:
forging peace with muslims in the spirit of christ
At a time when tensions run high between the
"Islamic" East and the "Christian" West, the Rev.
Paul-Gordon Chandler presents fresh thinking about how
Christ, whom Muslims revere as a prophet and Christians
serve as Lord, bridges the gap between the two
religions. Chandler discusses how Christ can be
"naturalized" on the Muslim road on the model of Syrian
novelist Mazhar Mallouhi, widely read in the Arab world
and a self-identified "Sufi Muslim follower of Christ."
Building on the common Middle Eastern heritage that the
Christian faith shares with Islam, Chandler stresses the
importance of removing Western cultural and religious
trappings associated with Christ in the minds of Muslims
and encourages all to follow a Christ who first walked
the Middle Eastern road.
